Delhi storm causes power outages and flight chaos

Due to heavy rain and high winds early this morning, some portions of Delhi and the surrounding regions lost electricity.

The inclement weather hampered flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Some airlines advise travellers to check their flight status before travelling to the airport.

The temperature in the city dropped 11 degrees Celsius between 5:40 and 7 a.m., from 29 to 18 degrees Celsius, according to news agency ANI, citing the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to airport officials, passengers should contact the airline involved for current flight information.

“Flight operations at Delhi airport have been hampered by poor weather. Passengers should contact the airline directly for the most up-to-date flight information, “The Delhi Airport tweeted.

Airlines warned travellers that poor weather in Delhi might disrupt departures and arrivals at the airport and that they should check their flight status.

The IMD previously said that the thunderstorm might cause damage to fragile buildings and kutcha huts, as well as traffic interruptions.

According to the forecast, thundershowers with moderate intensity rain and gusty gusts of 60-90 km/h are expected to persist over and adjacent parts of Delhi and NCR for the next two hours.
