I recently learned of a bug that might affect folks running their own Unity Asset Server on Windows.
Fortunately it’s not serious at all (just annoying as heck), and the fix is incredibly easy and permanent.

One area of interest is 3d simulations and virtual worlds as platforms for immersive learning.
I’ll be giving two presentations on Tuesday, October 25th: Keynote Speaker #2 11:30am – 12:00pm (Oct 25) “Learning Through Three Dimensional Simulation and Virtual Worlds” In this presentation, John will share his experiences using virtual world technology to enhance education and his current work at ReactionGrid to create web and mobile-based virtual word platforms for learning.
He will describe best practices for creating effective alternative reality learning scenarios, common pitfalls when exploring immersive learning technologies, and ways to effect cultural change within an organization by using online collaborative environments.
Breakout Session #1 2:00pm – 3:00pm (Oct 25) “Alternative Reality Learning: The Potential of Virtual World Platforms” In this breakout session, John will lead a group discussion and hands-on demonstration of the potential of virtual world platforms for immersive learning.

Lorentz worskhops take place in the in Leiden, and are somewhat similar to Dagstuhl seminars common in computer science: A small group, a week long retreat, and a focus on interaction and collaboration.
To make this interaction happen, we will experiment with “writer’s and collaborator’s workshops”, inspired by for design patterns.
The set up of the workshops draws inspiration from commonly used in the design patterns community, which in turn were inspired by workshops int he creative literature community.
Pattern workshops have been used to review, evaluate, and improve pattern descriptions.
At the same time, the process is akin to a peer review process, except that the objective is not paper selection, but in depth discussion between authors and participants about the key message of a paper.

The Software Maintainability Index Revisited

and in older metric tool suites such as.

The Maintainabilty Index was introduced in 1992 by Paul Oman and Jack Hagemeister

originally presented at the International Conference on Software Maintenance and later refined in a paper that appeared in.
It is a blend of several metrics, including (HV), (CC), (LOC), and percentage of comments (COM).
For these metrics, the average per module is taken, and combined into a single formula: The maintainability index attracted quite some attention.

Also because the Software Engineering Institute () promoted it

for example in their 1997.
This report describes the Maintainability Index as “good and sufficient predictors of maintainability”, and “potentially very useful for operational Department of Defense systems”.
Furthermore, they suggest that “it is advisable to test the coefficients for proper fit with each major system to which the MI is applied.” Visual Studio Code Metrics were in February 2007.
A November 2007 clarifies the specifics of the maintainability index included in it.
The formula Visual Studio uses is slightly different.

The paper used 85 and 65 (instead of 20 and 10) as thresholds, describing them as a good “rule of thumb”. The metrics are available within Visual Studio, and are part of the code metrics , which can also be used in a continuous integration server.

Later, researchers from SIG published a thorough analysis of the Maintainability Index (first when introducing their for assessing maintainability and later as section 6.1 of their paper on technical quality and ).
