Katie Ledecky wins 800m freestyle Olympic games Tokyo 2020: She is the most individual Olympic gold of any female swimmer.

800m freestyle Olympic games Tokyo 2020: Katie Ledecky, the American swimmer, has always tried to distance herself from the field, and the Tokyo Olympics were no exception.

This week, American Ledecky won two gold medals in the 800-meter freestyle and the 1,500-meter freestyle, which is a new Olympic event for women this year. That gives her six Olympic gold medals in individual events over her career, the most of any swimmer, and more than any man except Michael Phelps, who is 13.

He has seven total gold medals, including one he won with the USA 4×200 freestyle relay team at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. He also has three silver medals, two obtained in Tokyo this week and one in Rio, for 10 medals overall.

Ledecky, 24, said Saturday that she intended to continue competing and qualify for the 2024 Games in Paris. She is still the best distance swimmer globally, but a new generation of athletes is catching up with her and even surpassing her, especially in the shorter races.
