Jurgen Klopp is confident about Van Dijk and Salah's fitness for the final

Jurgen Klopp is confident Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will be able to play Real Madrid in the Champions League final after leaving Saturday’s FA Cup final victory against Chelsea.

Even though Liverpool is still in contention for the Premier League championship, both players will be left out of Klopp’s squad for Tuesday’s match against Southampton.

“No,” Klopp answered when asked whether either could play at St Mary’s. They’re both OK, so the hope is that they’ll be participating again over the weekend.

“It’s optimistic, without a doubt, regarding the final, and we’re realistic about the Wolves game (on Sunday), but (we’d) prefer not for tomorrow.”

When Pep Guardiola’s squad drew 2-2 against West Ham on Sunday, Klopp’s men were given renewed confidence that they may catch Manchester City for the championship.

City leads the standings by four points with one game remaining and has a substantially more vital goal difference than its opponents, who have two games remaining.

Liverpool won the FA Cup final on penalties against Chelsea over the weekend, completing the second leg of a possible quadruple.

Fabinho, the Brazilian midfielder who missed the cup final due to a muscular injury, is still out. Still, Scotland defender Andy Robertson, who had a cramp on Saturday, could be available.

“I can guarantee and state with certainty that we will line out a side only to try to win the game against Southampton, as tough as it is because that is certainly the job to do,” Klopp continued.

City blunder?

However, Klopp is not optimistic that City would lose points against Aston Villa on Sunday, giving his team a chance to win the league.

“I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s game,” Klopp stated. “Do you think there’s a possibility, a huge chance?” I wouldn’t say that since I’m not sure when City last lost points in two consecutive games.

“Aston Villa will have to play in the middle of the week, something they are not accustomed to.” They want to go to City, as much as I’m sure they’re all pros and everything, but City is a reasonably decent football team. So I don’t think City will lose any points there.”

Klopp said that the FA Cup victory, which came after Liverpool’s League Cup victory earlier this season, relieved the club of burden in the season’s closing weeks.

“For me, a truly wonderful season is if we play like we do and win the Carabao (League) Cup and compete until the end for the league championship,” he added.

“It feels a lot better than we’ve already won two (trophies).”

“If we lose the final, the worst-case scenario is that we will not be champions, and in a few weeks, you will all remind me that it all rests on one game, whether it is a success or not, and such things.”
