Lewandowski off target as Bayern beat Barcelona 2-0

Robert Lewandowski’s missed opportunities on his comeback to Bayern Munich cost his Barcelona team the match in Germany.

Bayern outplayed their Spanish opponents in the first half, but goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane in the second half destroyed them.

After 50 minutes, Hernandez headed in at the near post, and Sane quickly added a late goal to secure the victory.

In a thrilling game, Lewandowski missed a lot of great opportunities.

Bayern Munich now leads Group C with six points after two games, thanks to the win.

With a 2-0 victory against Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic thanks to goals from Edin Dzeko and Denzel Dumfries, Inter Milan and Barcelona are tied on three points.

Unhappy return for Lewandowski

Lewandowski was making his first trip back to Bayern since joining Xavi’s Barcelona last summer.

It was an exciting match between two European giants who are more used to playing each other in Champions League knockout than group stage matches.

The Munich supporters seemed to have little animosity against the Pole, offering him a warm welcome before the game despite a drawn-out transfer controversy when the 34-year-old publicly expressed his wish to leave the Bundesliga winners.

Before Tuesday night, Lewandowski had nine goals for his new team in six games. But he wasted several excellent first-half opportunities at the Allianz Arena.

The greatest came on minute eighteen when Gavi hit a fantastic outside of the boot ball that set him up for a volley from eight yards, with which he missed the target.

Veteran Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer also denied him with a far-post header, the latter having previously made a good stop with his legs from midfielder Gavi.

Then, as a brutal retaliation for their star striker’s wastefulness, Barca saw Gavi miss the post with their most excellent opportunity of the second half.
