Lucknow: The BJP on Sunday withdrew the candidacy of Sangeeta Sengar, the former MLA’s wife and convicted of rape of Unnao Kuldeep Singh Sengar, from ongoing panchayat polls, the party said.
State party chairman Swatantra Dev Singh said the Unnao district chairman has now been asked to submit three new names to finalize a candidate. “The candidacy of Sangeeta Sengar, wife of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is convicted in the 2018 Unnao rape case, has been canceled,” Singh said. The BJP had declared its candidacy on April 9.
