The Andhra Pradesh State Electoral Commission announced on Monday that elections for urban local bodies in the state will be held on March 10, and the results will be announced on March 14.
If necessary, they will vote again on March 13.
Elections will be held for 12 municipal corporations and 75 municipalities / nagar panchayats. The municipal corporations that will go to the polls are Vizianagaram, Vishakhapatnam, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Chittoor, YSR, Kurnool and Ananthapuramu. Townships / nagar panchayats in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vishakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, SPSR Nellore, Ananthapuramu, Kurnool, YSR and Chittoor.
Andhra Pradesh’s urban local body elections were to be held in March 2020, but were postponed due to the coronavirus emergency shutdown.
In a press release, the state electoral commission said: “The commission examined the situation and decided that the situation is conducive to holding elections to local bodies.”
Currently, panchayat elections are also underway in the state. The polls began on February 9 and will last until February 21 in four phases.
Up to 7,507 candidates are vying for sarpanch positions and 44,876 are in the fray for ward members. Panchayat elections are being held to elect a total of 20,817 members of the neighborhood, according to an official press release.
