Manchester City Will Unveil Sergio Aguero Statue

Sergio Aguero expressed his gratitude to Manchester City ahead of unveiling a monument commemorating their record scorer’s most memorable strike.

In 2012, Aguero scored a stoppage-time goal against QPR to secure City’s Premier League championship win at the Etihad Stadium.

City won their first English championship since 1968 thanks to the Argentine forward’s 93rd-minute strike, with the extra advantage of beating Manchester United on the last day of the season.

On Friday, Aguero’s spectacular contribution to City’s ascent, which already includes five Premier League championships under the club’s Abu Dhabi-based owners, will be remembered.

Before joining Barcelona last year, Aguero set a new club record with 260 goals for City.

The 33-year-old retired in December due to a heart issue, but his legendary reputation at City will be commemorated with a monument outside the stadium.

The sculpture, which is said to mimic Sergio Aguero’s shirt-waving celebration after scoring against QPR, will be revealed on Friday to commemorate the occasion.

“Truly, it is a very nice event for me,” added Aguero, who will also attend a City 2011-12 team reunion celebration.

“I was able to win many titles and help the club become one of the most significant in the world over those ten years.”

“I am thankful to the club for erecting this monument in honor of my Manchester United career.” It’s something unique.

“I remember being young, and it was extremely touching to watch myself 10 years ago.”

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said it was critical to recognize the significance of Aguero’s most famous goal in the club’s history.

“It’s the moment, I believe, that altered everything,” Khaldoon added. “If you go back ten years, it was the turning point for what was to come.

“He is completely worthy of this award and, in my opinion, a legend for this club.”
