France midfielder Paul Pogba is a doubt for the World Cup in Qatar

Paul Pogba, a midfielder for Juventus and France, had knee surgery earlier this year, making him questionable for the World Cup in Qatar.

Having sustained the injury in July, Pogba, 29, has yet to play this year.

On November 22, France will play its first World Cup game against Australia.

According to Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, the decision to have surgery was made after Pogba stopped working out for the second time this morning.

Realistically, we can expect him back in January.

Later, Juventus declared the procedure, a selective external arthroscopic meniscectomy, “a total success.”

The first winter World Cup will cause the Serie A season to end after games on November 13 and resume in January.

When asked whether Pogba will be fit to defend his country’s title at the World Cup, Allegri said, “The World Cup is not my worry; Juventus’ problem is that he comes back in January.”

Pogba returned to the Serie A team this summer when his contract with Manchester United ended.

As France won the World Cup for the second time in 2018, he scored in the 4-1 victory against Croatia.
