Brazil International Vinicius Junior has Acquired Spanish Nationality

Vinicius Junior, a Brazilian international, has earned Spanish citizenship, his club Real Madrid said on Monday. This enables the team to sign another player from a non-European Union country.

Following a Real Madrid statement, “Our Brazilian player Vinicius Junior took the oath of loyalty to the Spanish Constitution on Friday, September 2, therefore from that point he also holds Spanish nationality.”

There are restrictions on the total number of non-EU players that a team may register under Spanish Liga regulations. However, 22-year-old Vinicius, formerly of Flamengo, joined Real Madrid in 2018 and quickly rose to prominence.

In the Champions League final from the previous year, he scored the winning goal. He has 14 caps for Brazil.
