Rangnick will discuss with Ten Hag about Ronaldo's future in Man United

Rangnick will discuss with Ten Hag about Ronaldo’s future in Man United.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract set to expire at the end of next season, Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

He stated that he will discuss Portugal forward’s future with new manager Erik ten Hag and the club’s board.

Ronaldo returned to United this season on a two-year agreement from Juventus, where he won eight major titles between 2003 and 2009.

This season, the 37-year-old has 17 goals in 28 league outings, including the equalizer in Thursday’s 1-1 draw at home with Chelsea. Only Mohamed Salah of Liverpool has scored more league goals this season.

When asked about Ronaldo’s future, Rangnick told reporters, “This is something we should discuss between Erik, the board, and me.”

“Cristiano is under contract for another year. So if he wants to stay, it’s also crucial to figure out what he wants.”

Rangnick stated that the final decision was out of his hands in a separate interview with Sky Sports.

“At the end of the day, it’s up to Erik and Cris to decide what they want to do,” he stated. “It is not for me to comment on that, but Cris’ performance was outstanding tonight.”

Rangnick admitted that the team is overly reliant on Ronaldo, who has scored eight of United’s previous nine league goals. The club will focus on adding fresh forwards in the summer.

“Right now, we rely a lot on Cristiano; he also performed excellently when Chelsea had the ball,” Rangnick continued.

“However, there must undoubtedly be a focus on bringing in a couple of fresh strikers.”

Ten Hag, a Dutchman, will take Rangnick’s seat on the bench at the end of the season.

United is in sixth place in the league with 55 points, five points behind Arsenal in fourth place, and two games in hand.
